Shirley Tribe, Apohaqui, N.B., died tragically in her home on August 16, 1991, as the result of a beating by her husband, just a few weeks after completing treatments for cancer of her mouth.

 

He pled guilty to a charge of manslaughter and was sentenced to six years. 

 

Shirley had tried on several occasions to leave the relationship, which had a long history of domestic violence, at one point seeking shelter at a transition house in Saint John. 

 

Shirley loved children.  She always made time for fun with her nieces and nephews such as playing a game of cards or going to the local swimming hole for a swim.  She was well known for her homemade pickles. Shirley had one great love in her life  -  her son. She now has 2 beautiful granddaughters whom she would have adored.

 

Although it has been difficult for the family to talk about the tragic circumstances of her death, there is no doubt that "we all miss her terribly and will remember her always".
