Theresa Legacy, Fredericton, N.B., was stabbed by her domestic partner, a former police officer, at her home on March 20, 1999. Before being stabbed, he had thrown her against the wall, choking and beating her. Theresa died after surviving a few days in the hospital.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is serving 9 years.
Theresa was an attractive, happy-go-lucky person. She was a proud, devoted mother who cherished her young daughter. As a volunteer or employee in her community, Theresa was hard working, highly organized and had strong entrepreneurial skills. Her friends recall that she was always there to help anyone in their time of need.
